How Gout was Controlled Through Healthy Foods
My story has taken place over the last twenty two months. I was faced with gout as a twenty five year old, much younger than the average male dealing with it. Gout is a form of arthritis that affects the joints like the big toe, ankles, and knees. My gout affected both of my big toes. Gouty arthritis is a very painful condition; a bed sheet is too heavy to be placed on the toe. The toe swells and it is nearly impossible to walk, let alone wear shoes. It comes on without warning, lasting up to two weeks.

4. Neutralizing Acid- Do you remember your last science class? But seriously, you can naturally neutralize the uric acid between your joints with a baking soda water mix. Baking soda is a base which is just the opposite of an acid. Therefore, by drinking a baking soda concoction, you can naturally treat a flare-up.

However, other certain herbs work synergistically with the herbs supra. Personally, no healing from arthritis can take place efficiently without the following herbs: Devil's Claw, Boswellia (Frankincense), Uva Ursi, Mullein leaves, Saffron, Cayenne pepper, Feverfew, and Guaiac wood.

Diagnosis A definitive diagnosis of gout is from light microscopy of fluid aspirated from the joints (this test may be difficult to perform) to demonstrate intracellular monosodium urate crystals in synovial fluid polymorphonuclear leukocytes. The urate crystal is identified by strong negative birefringence under polarised microscopy and its needle-like morphology. A trained observer does better in distinguishing them from other crystals.

Uric acid is filtered out of the body by the kidneys. It is then excreted in urine. When too much uric acid is produced by the liver, the kidneys are not able to remove it all, and it builds up in the blood stream. This build up of uric acid in the blood stream is known as hyperuricemia. Over time the uric acid crystallizes and ends up settling in joint spaces. White blood cells eventually mistake the crystals as a foreign invader to the body, and gather into the joints as well to attack the crystals. This causes inflammation, ie: swelling, redness, and the typical gout pain.

As we know, prevention is better than treatment; avoiding the intake of food high in uric acid can readily prevent the occurrence of gout. Reducing alcohol consumption is also often helpful.

1. Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs) - These oral-taken drugs are to provide the patient with relief from the inflammation and pain associated with the arthritis. Unfortunately, NSAIDs will not decrease the amount of uric acid between the joints. Therefore, the NSAIDS will provide relief for a night but will not cure gout.

As a nation, we are slowly killing ourselves with food. The biggest cause of body acidity is diet. Foods like refined sugar, hydrogenated oils, refined wheat, alcohol, caffeine, processed meats, soda, preservatives, artificial sweeteners and all fast food are extremely acidic. Obesity aside, the typical American diet promotes acidosis and disease. Arthritis and gout in particular, is directly linked to what you eat.

There are many effective alternative remedies for gout and many of them are not even suggested by doctors. If you are suffer the most painful form of arthritis, gout, it is time you begin to prioritize your health and try simple natural health remedies that work by reducing uric acid levels.

Therefore, the ''trick'' in curing gout is to remove uric acid. However, there are other natural ways of assisting the removal of uric acid, and just about the most popular, to judge from views of online polls I have seen, is drinking water. How does water work? Simply because a hydrated body will dilute uric acid and diluted uric acid is more likely to be excreted. This is the first reason why water use in gout treatment is so important.

CELERY AND PAIN RELIEF Two small studies reached interesting and hopeful conclusions about celery as a pain reliever. Treatment of turf toe varies with the type of healthcare provider and includes the use of rest, shoe modifications, orthotics, steroid injections and surgery. The success of non-surgical care will vary with the degree of injury, the rate at which the injury is healing and how much osteoarthritis has occurred. We see varying degrees of success with orthotics that promote plantarflexion of the first ray, effectively treating metatarsus primus elevatus and peroneus longus dysfunction. Simple arch supports can make a significant difference in the symptoms of turf toe. Should our patient not respond to conservative care in a reasonable time period, we are not reluctant to suggest surgical revision to address the problem whether it be revisions of the joint defect, shortening of a long first metatarsal or structural revision of metatarsus primus elevatus. As mentioned before, the clinical appearance of dorsal lipping or visible radiographic changes are suggestive of moderately advanced osteoarthritis, a condition that is only repaired by joint revision or replacement.

Tea is probably better than coffee for gout sufferers. Codeine Preparations Codeine is a narcotic which reduces the patient's sensitivity to pain. They can usually be taken in conjunction with Analgesics. In low doses, it can be taken without prescription. A side effect of taking Codeine is that it may cause Constipation.

Water has another beneficial effect. Drinking water generally has a pH of 7.0. At this pH level it has an alkaline effect on the body which is desirable in gout treatment since a more alkaline body is more likely to excrete uric acid. More water, other things being equal, is more likely to excrete uric acid.

A rheumatoid arthritic patient's immune system produces white blood cells that attack the synovium. This is what causes the inflammation, and painful swollen joints. When the inflamed synovium attacks the joint, bone, and cartilage it causes the muscles around the joint to become too weak to support it properly. Therefore chronic inflammation is the culprit that may eventually cause damage to the cartilage and bone.

Gout is a condition that results when crystals of uric acid are deposited body tissues, and is characterized by an overload of this acid. It causes joints to become inflamed and is often very painful. Chronic gout can lead to deposits of hard lumps in and around the joints.

One good list is at http://home.bluegrass.net/~jclark/alkaline_foods.htm which can be downloaded.

Certain foods that are high in purine may increase the patient's levels of uric acid. These include kidneys, liver, sweetbreads, sardines, anchovies, and meat extracts.

Tophi If you have tophi, it's heartening to know that Febuxostat has been shown to have success against tophi. Measured tophi areas reduced in many patients with tophi. The presence of tophi will be an additional factor in favour of a decision to prescribe Febuxostat (Adenuric).

Atherosclerosis or fatty deposits in blood vessels: Obesity is associated with increase in levels of bad cholesterol in blood. Atherosclerosis reduces the elasticity of blood vessels, narrows blood vessels and decreases blood flow through these vessels. All these changes lead to increased risk of heart disease and stroke.

Raising your body's pH levels is part of natural gout treatment. The theory is, supported by studies, that higher body pH levels (more alkaline) contribute to a reduction in uric acid levels because uric acid (diluted from drinking lots of water) becomes more soluble if the body is more alkaline. The higher the acid/alkaline ratio i.e. the higher the pH number on the pH scale, the more alkaline your body, and the more uric acid you should dissolve.
